Ambode’s special adviser, Tinubu, slumps and dies

Ayodeji Tinubu, special adviser to Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode, died on Thursday evening.

Tinubu slumped and died while taking part in a football match at the ongoing cabinet retreat organised by the state government for members of its executive council.

He was rushed to the Epe General Hospital after he slumped. He was later confirmed dead.

Tinubu was the former chairman of the Lagos state sports commission and a former board member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

He was recently appointed a special adviser on commerce to the governor.

The deceased is the brother of Wale Tinubu, chief executive officer of Oando.

Former international footballer to be sworn in with Liberian hopes sky-high

Former international footballer George Weah will be sworn in as Liberia's new president on Monday, a landmark moment that marks the troubled country's first peaceful democratic transition since 1944.

Weah will become the 25th president of the West African nation, taking power from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf after 12 years, with expectations running sky-high among Liberians that he will deliver on his promises of jobs and better schools.

The inauguration is due to begin at 9.45 am (0945 GMT) in Samuel Kanyon Doe stadium near the capital, Monrovia, with heads of state from Ghana, Mali, Nigeria and Togo expected to attend along with friends and former colleagues from his football years.

Weah played for a string of top-flight European teams in the 1990s and was crowned the world's best player by FIFA and won the coveted Ballon d'Or prize, the only African to have achieved this.

After losing his first run at the presidency to Sirleaf in 2005, he has spent the last 13 years attempting to gain the political credibility to match his wild popularity at home, becoming a senator in 2014.

Volunteers were putting the final touches to decorations and giving the streets a final lick of paint on Sunday, and many expressed hope the everyday difficulty of their lives would change.

"It's my very first time to see Liberia transferring power peacefully. People expect real democracy," said Samuel Harmon, 30, a street trader.

"The expectation of the people and the country is all up to him (Weah). Everybody believes that if he fails us, the majority will be disappointed with politics," he added.

Sirleaf will be remembered for maintaining peace after the harrowing 1989-2003 civil war left an estimated 250,000 dead. But extreme poverty remains pervasive and Liberia ranks near bottom in international rankings for health, education and development.

At a church service attended by Sirleaf and Weah on Sunday, the pair presented a united front following a bruising election campaign in which Sirleaf's longtime vice-president Joseph Boakai failed to convince as her successor while alleging fraud had marred the ballot.

Legal proceedings lodged by Boakai delayed a run-off vote and the transition period, meaning Weah has had less than a month to prepare for government rather than the three months initially scheduled.

Sirleaf told AFP the inauguration "implies continuity; it implies meeting the challenges," as she left the event.

Weah faces the challenges of a depressed export economy highly reliant on rubber and iron ore, and outsized expectations he can turn the country around within months and provide jobs for the overwhelmingly young population.

More than 60 percent of Liberia's 4.6-million citizens are under 25, and many voted for Weah in the expectation he would quickly boost employment.

He told journalists on Saturday at a football game -- a friendly with the army -- that his first priority was keeping the peace, and hit out at critics who say he is unqualified for the position.

"I am a human being, I strive to be excellent, and I can be successful," Weah said.

"When I work hard I believe what I believe in and I showed I could persevere," he added, referring to early disbelief amongst his countrymen that he could make it in the top European leagues.

Experts are concerned however that hopes of tackling rampant corruption and bringing technocratic expertise into his cabinet are at risk from the need to repay favours.

"He is under pressure from various constituencies and unlikely to nominate a cabinet of experts as he claimed he would do shortly after his electoral success," said Malte Liewerscheidt, Senior Africa Analyst at global risk consultancy Verisk Maplecroft.

The rumoured names were "clearly tilted towards re-paying political and personal debts of gratitude, suggesting continuity rather than a new dawn in Liberian politics," he wrote in a briefing note.

In what looks like a Nollywood move to follow in the footsteps of other Musical Artistes like Banky W, Ikechukwu, Vector and 2Baba, that tried their acting skills in Nollywood, Davido has also just debuted his acting career in a yet to be released Nollywood movie titled “The Legend At 60”.

A preview shared on his social media timeline, today, portrayed Davido as a highly skilled commercial pilot who has a lot of money to spend. The movie also features veteran reggae artiste Majek Fashek, whose music career Davido’s character tries to revive.

It could be too early to decide if Davido would perform extraordinarily well in the movie. But if he did, this could be another opportunity for him to rake in the Billions just as his music has done for him.

A former Christian convent schoolgirl says she wants to sell her virginity after her boyfriend broke up with her.

Bailey Gibson is taking bids from men around the world, saying she wants to lose her virginity in “the most profitable way possible”, and defending her decision from critics.

Fatai Adebayo also known as Alese, a 34-year-old suspected high priest of deadly ritualists sect, Badoo, has been detained.

He was captured at his shrine at 38, Ayegbami Quarters, Odogbolu LGA of Ogun state.

His capture was based on the confession of some detained Badoo members who disclosed to the Lagos Police Command that the shrine was their spiritual base for oaths taking and diabolic backing before they start each of their gruesome operations.

Adebayo operated in a wooden kiosk situated in his family compound where he lives with his wife and mother.

The kiosks were ridden with varying fetish accessories including figurines, rocks, bottles of mixture, cowry-embedded apron, pictures of white men and women, black pots, goats, chickens among others.

Leading a team of security operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Omoimi said the discovery was part of the success made in nipping criminal groups in the bud.

He said the spearhead of the ritualist sect was also arrested over the weekend during a duel to stop his escape.

Senator John Owan Enoh, Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly said that he defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, because the interest of his senatorial district was not protected and joining his new found love party, the APC, the interest of his senatorial district was now being protected.

He said in 2019, he would be evaluated on the basis of the work he had done for the people of the state, adding that in his two years in the senate, he had done 44 water projects, 12 roads and culverts, attracted employment opportunities to so many youths of the constituents and so far 4,023 have benefited from his education support intervention scheme across the 66 wards of his senatorial districts.

Speaking in Ikom local government area of the State, Enoh who was presenting his mid-term scorecard said, “Since I joined the APC, I have found myself coming back to the way politics ought to be played, that you have no reason not to follow me to APC, please come and join me”

“There is no reason if you decide to follow this wind of change that is blowing across the central senatorial district” and urged the people to compare his work with that of the Governor, “Please just Compare my work with that of the governor when he was a senator”

The lawmaker stated that he took a bold step to defect to his new party because he had the conviction that in the APC, people of the central senatorial district can be liberated from the wimps and caprices of those who had the erroneous belief that the senatorial district was their personal estate.

He said that the decision to pull out from the PDP and moved to the APC was not a decision to toy with, stressing that he had no regrets taking the bold step that he took. He maintained that the APC was the only party that could offer him a fresh opportunity for open and inclusive politics.

The politician said, ”Majority of our people in the central senatorial district have been excluded by the state control PDP and I believe that the interest of my senatorial district will best be served in an alternative platform like the APC”.

He maintained that the mandate given to him by his people to represent them in the senate in 2015 came with a huge challenge and expectation of becoming responsive to the plights of his constituent at the point
of their need.

“When you win election to represent a people, you do not just do things that concern you alone, but you strive to do things that will impact positively on the lives of the people. Do those things that you know will excite the people who elected you?”

Enoh said, “I found out that so many people who supported me to contest against former senate Leader Victor Ndoma-Egba, did that not just because they loved me but because they hated Victor Ndoma-Egba”

“It was more because they hated Sen. Victor Ndoma Egba. Some of these our Leaders did not support me because of my work and the love that they had for me but because of the hatred that they had for Ndoma-Egba”

“Why do I say this? I expected these leaders to at least give me a chance to see if I will fail or succeed. They should have given me a chance to see if I will do well or not instead these leaders started showing me the real motives why they supported me”

Enoh opined that as a leader all he needed at that time was to effectively represent his constituent courageously, take bold decisions or you prepare for doom or colossal failure, “I come from the central senatorial district of the State and if in two years people are going to get marginalized and sidelined on account of support for your son whom you just elected to the senate, it means that those people are no longer ready to work with us again”

Musical Artiste Solid Star Partways with Achievas Entertainment after his 10 years record deal

The new year came with a big decision for Solid Star, as he has left his record label Achievas Entertainment after his 10-year record deal came to an end.

Solid Star who made the announcement on Instagram wrote;

The record label, Achievas Entertainment also announced the end of Solid Star’s contract on their official Instagram handle;

ALL PREVIOUS RECORDING AUDIOS, MUSIC VIDEOS, ALBUMS OF THE SINGER REMAINS PROPERTY OF ACHIEVAS ENTERTAINMENT.
