There was reportedly commotion in a village in Cross river state last weekend after a gorilla living in the wild met a farmer in the bush and followed him home. It was reported that residents of Bitiah Irruan village in Boki LGA of Cross river State all gathered at the farmer’s home to witness and see the animal for themselves as many said such incident has never happened before. Trying to figure out why the gorilla followed the farmer home, some said it was possible the animal no longer had food in the bushes, so he followed the man home, hoping to get food from there. Others insinuated it could be a sign of favour to the farmer, another said the gorilla lost his way while moving from Bumaji village to Bitiah where an NGO takes care of them. 3 Teenagers have been Caught for Sleeping With a 14-year-old girl

Three teenagers who slept with a girl of 14-year-old secondary school pupil, have been detained by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The suspects are; Osamudiamen Stephen, Osabuohien Aghimien, and Victory Osayomwan were paraded at NSCDC headquarters after the victim of the family caught them. Osabuohien, a mechanic apprentice, claimed the victim was his girlfriend, adding that he took her to the home of his friend for the night. He said his friends made a request to have se.x with the girl and she agreed. “I was there when they had se.x with her. When my friend said he wanted to go in again, she agreed. The Cross River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade, has stressed the importance of collaboration between the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and the different levels of government in the development of the Niger Delta region. Governor Ayade spoke when members of the Board and Management of NDDC paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House in Calabar on Thursday. Edo govt to construct 25 new roads

The Edo State Government has earmarked 25 new roads for construction across the state in the coming weeks, as it intensifies efforts to deliver projects that will transform the socio-economic landscape of the state. Edo commissioning 75 airconditioned intracity buses in Benin Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Osarodion Ogie Esq., disclosed this during a chat with journalists, in Benin City, Edo State. Jamb Suspends Use of NIN for 2020 JAMB Registration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has said it decided to suspend the use of the National Identification Number as requirements for the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry registration due to technical issues and stakeholders’ concerns. The UTME and DE registration is scheduled to begin on January 13 and end on February 17. Announcing this at a press conference in Abuja on Saturday, JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, said technical issues regarding the registration system at the National Identification Management Commission was a major reason for the suspension.

ABOUT HOME FINISHING SKILLS PROGRAMME:

The Home Finishing Skills programme is structured to address and fill the yawning gap of skilled craftsmen and craftsmanship in finishing of construction projects, especially homes and offices in Nigeria. This programme therefore seeks to develop and deliver training, under the supervision of world class experts from the UK, for 100 qualified participants, in the first instance.The skills training will be in the following occupations:-:

1. P. O. P Ceiling Installation
2. Screeding
3. Decoration
4. Floor Tiling
5. Electrical Wiring
6. Carpentry
7. Plumbing

Aim:
To provide an opportunity for young people and artisans to develop improved work skills and knowledge (up-skilling) and to enable participants to significantly improve their chances of gaining long term employment and sustainable business opportunities in their chosen craft.

Proposed Timeframe:
The training programme is planned to last 4 weeks, with student/participants attending other development activities. The activity is to commence from 10th January, 2018 to 10th February, 2018.

Student Cohort:
It is anticipated that there will be 100 students per cycle. Students will have some skills, knowledge and competence of the subject matter.

Language
All training, assessment and materials to be in the English language.

Qualification:
School Cert, City & Guilds or above in relevant crafts. Hands-on knowledge of and experience in specific trade/skill is required. Only practicing tradesmen and women will be considered. Those who have no working experience in above stated skill areas need not apply. Candidates must hail from the Niger Delta Region.

Age: 18-35

Location:
Delivery location and training center will be at The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. The precise training format will be a mix of practical workshop based teaching of skills and knowledge, coupled with work-simulated competence assessment.

Programme:
This programme has been developed by and is the copyright of ESI. It will be based on the requirements taken from relevant UK occupational standards and associated qualifications which will be contextualized to meet the requirements in Nigeria. Development of the curriculum and supporting materials undertaking scoping and development is by ESI. The original materials will be supplied, plus a limited number of copies for distribution to the funding agencies. All student copies will be printed in country on demand.

Programme Delivery:
The programme will be delivered in-country by ESI International Skills Partnership Exchange Programme qualified trades tradesmen/women. Each expert will deliver the programme in total per subject, spread over 4 weeks.
This high impact, intensive skills teaching and competence assessed approach will ensure that students will receive the skills and knowledge they require to achieve the required skills standards. Teaching and assessments will take place in appropriate teaching classrooms/workshops at The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, Imo State. In addition, students will be taught work ready/employability skills as an integrated part of the programme. These skills will better equip students to see long term employment and business opportunities.

Capacity Building Benefit Package:
During the initial tranche of activity, a programme of in-country capacity and capability building will be developed. This will be designed to provide top achieving students with an opportunity to become the trainers of the future. Through on the job coaching and mentoring, the chosen students will have the opportunity to be invited to the UK to be trained as teachers, learning training skills so that in time, they can run the programme in country without the need for UK trainers on site.

Certification:
Certificates will be issued to students upon satisfactory achievement of all the skills assessment criteria.
